Heritage of Legnano

Legnano, Italy

Located in a city near Milano, Legnano, this Recovering Center is an architecture from the Nazism period. The annex is being used as this function, but the project focused on the abandoned building with strong historical value and preservation needs.

By the analysis of the materials already present there, respecting the configuration, the work had its focus on creating a new space for the recovering center that would be a reference not only to the city of Legnano, but also for the region of Lombardia.
The choice of interior materials was based on Alvar Aalto detailed studies – the furniture color and shape is also healing for patients. The most important details of this project is the rereading of the exterior brise-soleil, using new technologies to recover the original idea. The second relevant design detail is the highlight of the original ‘intonaco’ with drawings from 1960, which were maintained and evidenced by a choice of geometric play of materials that respects the history and bring life to the project with new technology.
