Milan, Italy
The project involves a large area of a neighborhood in Milan, called Adriano. ‘Quartiere Adriano’ is essentially residential, with few cultural spaces and quality squares for the residents and visitors. The idea was to create a reference for the area, connecting two neighborhoods: Adriano and Crescenzago, separated by a river called Martesana.
Right now, the river is hidden by trees, not appreciated; by creating this cultural center, it is creates a whole new vision for the area.
The inspiration for this project is the brutalism and modern squares by Burle Marx in Brazil. The spaces are essentially educational, divided into areas suitable for all ages and activities, open air and inside the cultural center.
The building has a close facade if we look from the street, giving emphasis on the square, but it is covered by glass when turned to the ‘martesana’, reflecting the importance of the river appreciation.
